In 1969, Greg Taylor, an overweight 21 year old man is drafted in the army. After 17 weeks of basic and MP training, Greg comes home 79 pounds lighter only to hear from his girlfriend, Terry that she doesn't want to see him again.At his first duty station, Aberdeen Proving Ground, he meets and falls in love with Susan James, the daughter of a colonel. He breaks up with her after he finds out she has been dishonest with him. Fraternization between enlisted personnel and officers is illegal in the eyes of the army. Their relationship grows and they become engaged, leaving Vietnam together.
