In the far-off days when great forests still covered the hills and valleys of Ashanti, there was a sacred custom among some clansmen that all babies born albinos must be given up as sacrifice for the god of Bosumuru. Dentaa has been born such a baby, but the mother determined to keep this beautiful girl escapes with her to a foreign land, slighting her clan and the gods of the land. Years on, when Dentaa comes of age, she falls in love with Seintif but the boy's father, disgusted by his son's decision to marry the cursed Dentaa, behaves in ways that force Seintif to elope. In apparent fulfilment of godly retribution on Dentaa, the two lovers are plunged in a whirl of ruinous difficulties. Seintif, now living in exile with his lover, has to not only contend with the gods on their divine warpath, but also deal with prejudice, the many debilitating taboos and the "enemy of himself".
