Born in Durban, South Africa, in 1930, Ken Rigney grew up 'colour-blind', unaware of being 'mixed blood' and of the perceived differences amongst his friends and neighbours. But later, when he discovered that only 'whites' could get an apprenticeship, he decided to seek pastures new, in the UK, where he still lives today, enjoying a life full of colour. Ken's story is one of a happy childhood, a brave journey to start a new life, and of finding happiness with his family, supporting his favourite football team, The Saints, and breeding flowers. But why did he name one new plant 'Midnight Madness'?
