There are numerous commentaries on the New Testament Epistle of Colossians, but I think that Petr Pokorny's work fills a particular niche. Pokorny offers theological insights throughout his commentary which are accompanied by helpful footnotes. For example, his remarks on Colossians 1:15ff and its relationship to the Arian Controversy or its historical background as well as its Sitz-im-Leben are illuminating. Furthermore, Pokorny's work contains excurses that contribute to his overall scholarly presentation. One point that might concern some readers is Pokorny's view that Colossians is a pseudonymous letter of the early church. I do not concur with his view of the Pauline Epistle in this regard, but I still found his presentation objective and helpful.
