Introduction to Grammar using Linguistics as a basis
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 18 years ago
This book was a wonderful introduction to English grammar from a linguistics perspective; which not only gave the logic behind English grammar, but explained the linguistic structures of grammar in a way that a person familiar with the basics of grammar can understand. It really complements one's knowledge of English grammar in this way. The second half of the book gives an introduction to linguistic context and text, the role of register and function. Each chapter of the book has practice questions which are really nice to test your comprehension. I read it one chapter at a time and tested myself and got through the book within a reasonable amount of time, because unlike mose grammar books I've read, it wasn't boring to me. If you have an interest in learning about linguistics and composition, I highly recommend this book. It is more than just another grammar rule book, it is an English Language book; an excellent resource for teachers and students.
