College Sports Jokes: (Really?)

Very likely, you have been in a circle of family or friends visiting and have heard a joke that goes something like this: "How many college football players does it take to change a lightbulb?" "I don't know. I give up." "Well, it takes one to do it, and everybody on the football team gets credit for the course!"Remember? And then, very likely, somebody in the circle said, "Oh, well, I thought you were telling us a joke." (Was that person you?) So what would the world of college athletic programs be like if academic education was the number one priority, and sports teams was strictly an extra- curricular activity that was only a privilege given to college students who maintained sufficient academic standing? And what if that sufficient academic standing meant attending classes, taking exams on schedule, turning in term papers on time, and the like?
