Through my practice of connecting with my ancestors and spirit guides, like many who follow the Spiritist practices that emerged in the Caribbean, I would utilize Allan Kardec's Collection of Spiritist Prayers. Despite using this tool for connecting with the Spiritual Realm, I felt a disconnect. Many ancestors or spirits that form my Spiritual Court may not have practiced Christianity, yet why do we continue to use these prayers in our practice. The same concept goes for those Spiritists who practitioners of Santeria and Palo Monte. When they do give us one it is merely to help us form our ideas and above all to call our attention to certain principles of the Spiritist Doctrine. Or perhaps to offer guidance to those who find it difficult to express their ideas, because there are some who believe they have not prayed properly if they have not been able to formulate their thoughts well."
