Everyone must start somewhere.

Many people feel a little squeamish or cheated when they start with the kids' book on how to collect coins. Take heart, this book is for you. Barkley Krauss's "Collecting Coins for Pleasure and Profit" is exactly what the title implies. It is a comprehensive guide and handbook for collectors and investors. Contents: Introduction The origin of coins History of U.S. coinage Making modern US coinage Starting a coin collection Handling and preserving claims Coin grading Popular US coins Rare US coins Medals and tokens Buying coins Selling coins Claim dealers Coin shows Going interesting Forgeries, fakes, and errors Numismatic periodicals National coin societies Museums Glossary Bibliography About the color photographs Index Even though this is an introductory book, it is not a coffee table book. Each section goes into depth yet does not require you to know any of the industry jargon. If you're just starting, this is a good place to start; however, if you have already dived into collecting coins, this book is a good description of the coins that you may already have. The only thing that is missing is information on my collection of porcelain Notgeld.
