Collected Works of Leopold Ritter von Sacher-Masoch

Leopold Ritter von Sacher-Masoch was an Austrian aristocrat and author. Psychiatrist Richard Kraft-Ebing used his name to coin the term 'masochism' and he will be always associated with this sexual inclination. Masoch was considered a fine author, particularly during the early years of his career and his characters comprise a rich mix of backgrounds and cultures, from the Germans and Austrians to Slavs and Jews; from the nobility and the military to the peasant homestead. He dismissed the Industrial Revolution and instead developed a plan to document human influences in a massive series of works to be entitled The Legacy of Cain but which was never completed. Instead, the dominant Amazon rose up and began to saturate his stories, in which the modernist clashes which a raw sexual energy which is both primeval and bestial. This collection includes a new translation of the evergreen 'Venus in Furs', a five-act drama and another 47 short stories.
