In Collected GPAD Poems: 1981 - 2023, the publisher has compiled an eclectic variety of poems that George P A Dover has written from 1981 to the present. The collection is divided into six parts, in each of which the poems therein contained is organized thematically. However, in Part Six: California Poems, though the theme of love is most salient, the organization of the poems is centered on geography, specifying where the poems were written. As Berkley Wendell Semple points out in his introduction to the collection, Dover's poetry is characterized by a "duality" of locale or residence. The author was born and reared for the first seventeen years of his life in Guyana, South America, moved to, and lived in, Cuba for five years, then immigrated to the USA, where he has lived for almost forty years. The duality thus stems from his constantly reconstructing those pre-USA experiences and exploring his current experiences, which are shaped by myriad factors that are germane to living in the United States of America.
