farmer's market companion book

Gorgeous pictures inspire creative dishes when the garden veggies or farmer's market produce overwhelm. This is one of my two favorite books on what to do with garden veggies. Paired with "Greene on Greens and Grains", this is a wonderful supplement that encourages venturing into exploring some of the lesser appreciated vegetables as well as getting creative with the well known favorites. Not the absolute best recipe book, and not the best vegetable history and use book, but a good combination of decent recipes, great photos and fun to read textural descriptions. This makes a good easy chair read when the creative batteries need recharging.

Inspiring

This is a lovely book, which I would recommend to any home gardener or food lover. The writing style is a light and easy to read - with and informative blend of history, nutrition, cultivation and preparation. Most recipies are simple, and many are vegetarian. The photos are fantastic, and will help you finally identify that mystery item at the local farmers market.

Recommended for Cooks and Writers alike!

I found The Vegetable Book to be a great intellectual resource of botanical as well as historical information regarding vegetables. Though the quantity of actual recepies for each category was kept at minimal, Colin Spencer's vegetable knowledge is indeed educational and recommended for cooks and writers alike. Highly applauded!

Gorgeous book!

I received this book as a gift and have been delighted with it. The photography is gorgeous and the recipes delicious and very simple to prepare. A variety of vegetables from around the world are featured as well as old favorites, so one will never get bored from this book. Highly recommended!
