Coldplay are a rock group formed in London, England, UK during 1996. The 4 members, lead vocalist/pianist Chris Martin, lead guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, attended University College London. They came together from 1996 to 1998, the band having changed its name from Pectoralz to Starfish, before settling on Coldplay, with their creative director and former manager Phil Harvey often being referred to as the 5th member by the group. They recorded then issued two EPs: Safety in 1998 then The Blue Room the following year, the latter being their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.
