Michael Walker is a special kinds of federal agent. He is a National Park Service investigator and he's tracking and tracing smugglers who are stealing priceless artifacts.
Just as he's making headway, though, he is pulled off that case and dispatched to Glacier Bay National Park in Alaska, where a team of scientists has gone missing.
Meanwhile, in Florida's Everglades National Park, FBI special investigator Gina Delgado traces the seemingly random murder of an environmental science intern from another US Geological Survey team to their ongoing experiments that are decimating the fragile ecosystem. That is, until she too is dispatched to investigate an accidentally sunken US nuclear submarine whose entire crew has inexplicably died, possibly murdered.
The connection between these disparate investigations lies in a deadly prehistoric organism, frozen for thousands of years in the ice until global warming brings it back to life, which could mean the death of all life on Earth. It is an organism that a rogue billionaire sees as the ultimate fuel source and a Russian strongman views as the ultimate weapon that can shift the global balance of power forever.
As Walker and Delgado slowly, individually, piece together the forces at play, they find themselves battling adversaries, seen and unseen, across multiple fronts against an ancient, unstoppable enemy.
