Talking with Ernest Hemingway

Kirk Curnutt takes an interesting approach- what would it be like to sit down and discuss a variety of topics with Papa, that hard-drinking, carousing, womanizing lover of life and master of 20th Century literature, Ernest Hemingway? The author takes known facts about Hemingway, his tastes, his likes and dislikes, his personality and views on life- and crafts interesting "dialogues" with the man. The approach is unique- and fun. You get to sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee with the man who many consider one of the greatest writers in American literature and decide for yourself if you enjoy talking with him or not...hearing his views on a wide range of subjects...his prejudices, his weaknesses, his strengths.... "Coffee with Hemingway" is simply a refreshing light read for those who already have nearly every other book about the man- and want something different. It works well and should please Hemingway fans of all stripes... -by Gene Pisasale Author of "Vineyard Days"

About "Coffee with Hemingway"

I want to thank Mr. Kirk Curnutt for "Coffee with Hemingway". Your insights bend my lifetime-forged views of Ernst. You take my mindset, `love the work' - `hate the writer', to a new level. I do oppose some of your words. But, I do admit you did a better job than any of the Hollywood snippets of him. So, after 36 years of beating my face on a typewriter and computer keyboard --- I've been rekindled by your insights into his work. You pose a question - without writing it down - will young people understand your dialog with him. I do hope so.

A strong and smart blend

I have been a life-long student of Ernest Hemingway's literature and books about his life and work. So I have to admit that I initially approached this latest offering about Papa with initial skepticism. Coffee with Hemingway? I am not sure that I ever thought about drinking coffee with Hemingway; anyway, it would not have been coffee. However, I soon was savoring the flavor of this book down to the last drop. The format of this very compelling book seemed to have allowed Curnutt, who I personally know to be indeed very knowlegeable about the man, freedom to capture the very complex and nuanced personality of America's most famous and arguably most representative author. Bravo!
