I was ten years of age and away from the bosom of my family for the very first time. The year was 1972 and the old style propeller driven plane lumbered into the sky leaving behind Leeds and Bradford airport on a cold windy April morning.I remember the huge red perfectly circular Edam cheese bought as a present for my Mum. I recall carving my name on the back of the coach seat with a flick knife bought in Ostend. The fight with my best mate Pete Karet lives long in my memory. But how could I ever forget the motley collection of prostitutes in Amsterdam's famed red light area? As you would expect the ladies of the night left the most vivid impression on my rapidly maturing young mind and the intervening four decades have not diminished the mental images one bit.
