What a great journey indeed! I thought that this was a great book! Although a fiction, the book gives you the experience of being part of the conversation, at least that's how I felt. What is written only makes you want to read more of what Michelangelo dialogued about, for example, when he wanted to narrate to Fray Auguste what he discovered regarding the multiplication of mankind, or did mankind multiply through the relationship of Cain with beasts? Overall I thought it was a great book for reference. Reading the book can be a very enjoyable experience. The best part explains the formation of the heavenly bodies, their movement and position in the space. Science and art combined in one book, you can't beat that. It does not skip from subject to subject. I like the flow and follow up from one plot to another. This book is about unfolding history and in the process one is able to appreciate the world we live in as creation unfolds before one's eyes!

Harmonizing Science and Faith

Codex Michelangelo is a creative and insightful approach to reconciling disparate views concerning creationism and science. Raul Rodriguez masterfully blends historically accurate events with a dramatic fiction narrative from the perspective of the frustrated mind of the world's most remarkable artist, Michelangelo. From his first encounter with Nicholas Copernicus, until his confession with St Ignatius Loyola, the protagonist Michelangelo struggles with the prospect of harmonizing the scientific theories of his day with deeply enigmatic accounts from the Bible. Through the course of the book, great minds of the Italian Renaissance, such as Leonardo Da Vinci, intersect with the growing artist's quest for truth. Many share their views on the world's origin and development in light of current discoveries and developments in science. The young visionary artist begins to piece together a story of creation and history unfolding in unison in accord with God's vast ineffable design. Unable to articulate this chronicle of the Creator's power working through nature and time, he casts his confused and fragmentary thoughts into great masterpieces of art. Late in life, while working on the "Last Judgment" behind the main altar of the Sistine Chapel, the anguished artist begins to compose sonnets - codices - in praise of the divine glory, which relate the secrets that have been revealed to him through the course of his long life. These codices are placed together with a detailed autobiographical journal in a binder that is labeled "To be opened only after my death." The views in this book, which are related in the form of fictitious prose, are not meant to convey a complete historically and scientifically valid account, nor are they intended to be a consistent interpretation of the creation narrative in the Bible, as the author himself explains at the end of his work. Nevertheless, Codex Michelangelo does leave both creationists and scientific minds of all types a great deal to think about. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Congratulations to Mr. Rodriguez for this well written piece of work!

Fiction...Most Probably True

Codex Michelangelo is a wonderful piece of writing that clearly illustrates the harmony between science and religion, focusing on the story of creation as told in the Bible. The introduction, which I found to be a good story in itself, revealed the author's purpose of writing, the emotional struggles he had towards the completion of his work, what made him continue and persevere to finish the book, and why he chose Michelangelo to be its main character. In his book, the author presented a remarkable correlation between the story of creation in the Bible and the known scientific theories about the universe and the beginnings of man. He did it by intertwining in the life experiences of Michelangelo deep conversation and dialogue (as narrated by Michelangelo himself) with characters like Copernicus, Francesco d'Urbino, Leonardo da Vinci, and Erasmus. There is an element of mystery found in Chapter I that makes it more interesting to read. The codices of Michelangelo found in Chapter XI, expressed in poetry form, are full of beautiful imagery about creation. Included is an account of how the earth was populated, starting with Adam and Eve till the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. After reading the book, I became more convinced of the existence of God who gave us the "Breath of Life" and I came to the conclusion that because nothing comes from nothing, God must have started "something" in space and time where science began. Codex Michelangelo is worth reading even if, as the author mentioned, you may not agree with every observation presented in his book.

Great to Share

The book is a very good source of information for those curious about creation as it relates to science and religion. Clearly it demonstrates Mr. Rodriquez's quest for the supernatural written in something so clear and thorough. I would recommend this bok to anyone interested in this subject, a good resource handbook. Also it is interspersed with beautiful dialogues and practical daily thoughful meditation.
