Peter Stevens arrives from New York City looking for meaning, propelled by visions from a tortured past and a need to escape his current reality. Somehow he finds himself in Nawfia teaching secondary school science. But there is an inner force from centuries past driving the process forwards down to the village of Umuriam. He can't keep away haunted by other visions. Then images of hunger, starvation and death appear on TV. So Peter comes back to help feed the People and finds love in the arms of staff nurse Chidera. Faith won't let him be and Chidera withholds critical information. There is also something that pulls him to the mysterious Lake Ezu in Nawfia and an ancient Oji tree. Strife is never far away. Jets get scrambled. Warships and satellites are repositioned. Extraction and strike teams start training and there are enough Tomahawks on board to do the job.
