Cobwebbed Eyes

Cobwebbed Eyes takes place during a tumultuous time in African American history, a time in the 1980s when oppression and aggression runs rampant through the blood of police officers patrolling the gang-riddled city streets of The Town. Self-destructive behavior is taught to impressionable youth who mimic murky characters in music videos and production films that glamorize drug dealing and gang activity. Major media moguls disseminate racially motivated propaganda that bamboozles black youth into believing all black men grow up to become menaces to society. And here we are, three decades later, and not much has changed. Brandon Lewis, a/k/a Ceeze Green, is a member of the notorious street gang, the Ridgetop Crips. He is introduced to his soulmate Paulette Jenkins when he's refilling his monthly weed supply at a drug dealer's house where she hangs out. As the attraction grows, the pair decides to stop doing drugs. Months into their relationship, and after Ceeze has quit his habit, he discovers Paulette smoking crack cocaine again. Her addiction gets the best of her as allegations surface, accusing her of neglecting her children. Upon the successful completion of a substance abuse program, Paulette is released and gives birth to Ceeze's daughter Riesha. But Ceeze has returned to the streets. He is faced with a conundrum from Paulette: stop running the streets or lose your family. He chooses his family. During an evening out, Ceeze surprises Paulette with an engagement ring and she agrees to marry him. Later that night, on the eve of their engagement, Paulette is violently killed and their daughter is abducted. The next day Ceeze is accused of both the murder and abduction. Spearheading the case is the Chief of Police, whose own behavior is under scrutiny for drug use and abuse to both his wife and mistress. The allegations open up a huge investigation of government officials doing business behind closed doors. Meanwhile, the mayor summons the police chief to rid the city of drug dealers and gangs. This motivates the chief to make sure his name is associated with ending domestic violence and gang activity - by making Brandon Lewis (Ceeze Green) public enemy #1. What happened in the 1980s is not unlike violent events happening today. This story, or parts of it, could be taking place right around the corner from where you live.
