The novel Co Mot Thoi Nhan Chung (There Were Once Witnesses) is a collection of stories about seven fictional characters in the Vietnam War. These are Vietnamese Baby-Boomers. Based on historical events, these characters' lives reflect the feelings of a generation during the turbulent and uncertain times of a chaotic war. They hated the war, but were forced to fight. Then, they were faced with hopelessness. The war ended with the fall of the regime. In the span of the short seven years (1968-1975) their stories intertwined. Only some survived.
