Clued to Pieces is a cross between modern day adventure s and historical characters. Beth, the daughter of the White House Dollhouse Store owner. The caper is set in south Minneapolis, Minnesota. The mom talks to the miniature dolls belonging to the various White Houses such as Dolley Madison or Jackie Kennedy. Beth and her mom are descendants of Dolley Madison as well as the grandma who lives nearby.

There is an exposition of the national parks at the Excel Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. Beth and her friend, Connie, accompany her mom at this time. President Theodore Roosevelt is one of the impersonators as well as many other historical celebrities. At the same time, there are Indigenous jingle dancers and Buffalo Bill Cody will stage an historical Wild West Show.

While all this is happening, the booth where Beth is situated, they have shown White House dollhouses. On display is also a handbag which had belonged to Alice Roosevelt, his first child. There are other memorabilia for purchase.

At an unknown time, the handbag was stolen. It was up to Beth to discover its whereabouts before the hidden document is located and in the wrong hands. They will discover the reason behind the theft upon the search when the family visits the Roosevelt National Park.
