If you've been in the Notes Biz for awhile and have yet to take your tests, then this is the book for you, however it does have a few errors, and a few hilarious typos in the book. Heck they even managed to misspell "Lotus." Did anyone proofread this book? It doesn't do much for one's confidence in the material when there are mispelled words in the book...
Very good & useful book.

Good Book, IF Reader is Experienced
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 25 years ago
The targeted audience for this book are experienced Domino administrators, as stated in the preface. It is not recommended for those new for to Domino, which explains some bad reviews given to it. However, I find that the chapters could have been organized better with the first chapter covering the ground up procedures first (Installation & Configuration) instead of breaking them up according to exam modules. All CLP R5 track exams have overlapping competencies. Therefore it is not possible, for example, for someone to just read the Exam 520 portion of this book in order to pass that exam. However, the exam questions could have been better presented to reflect real exam questions. Also, certain target competencies are not sufficiently covered, or are not emphasized strongly enough in order for readers to take note of the major points.
efficient, effective CLP prep for experienced Lotus admins

This is a good, efficient, short book for CLP test prep IF you have 1) experience running Lotus Notes, and 2) exposure to a good comprehensive R5 reference materials (I like the IBM redbooks and Kirkland's Domino System Administration, also published by New Rider's, and easily related to this book). The material in this book is organized according to the three tests needed to gain CLP certification, and reads like very good classroom notes. I used this book sitting in front of my Domino Administrator console (so that I could review the material outlined), and with more comprhensive books at hand (when I wanted discussion of a topic, which this book avoids). This combination helped me pass the tests, and also kept the handful problems in the book from causing much of a problem. (The problems were of normal test prep variety: a few typos, explanations so compressed as to be incorrect, and unintended echoing of material from another contributor's section.)There are practice tests in the back.
