Research has proven that the apparently simple act of keeping a journal can be beneficial in several ways. Not only does it help us on a mental and emotional level as we pour out our thoughts and feelings on the page; it also helps our physical health, improving our blood pressure and even how well our liver functions In fact, some research suggests that keeping a journal and writing in it on a daily basis can reduce the number of doctor's visits we take.
The habitual act of expressing ourselves in writing helps us to manage our stress and -- if you're anything like me -- flesh out our thoughts and feelings when we're confused about which direction we need to take.
Personally, I like to keep a record of what I'm going through in a particular season, so that in the months and years to come, I can reflect and see how much I have changed and grown as a result of that season.
In the Christian faith, we have read of the Proverbs 31 woman - a working wife and mother who is caring and industrious, whose family treasures her, and whose staff reveres her. While we may not share all of this woman's characteristics, we can choose to apply various of her traits to ourselves. As women of faith who are striving to be better (the "woman-in-progress" to whom the subtitle of the journal refers), we are - like the Proverbs 31 woman - clothed in dignity and strength. Let's celebrate it
