This book reveals why I love nature. I was born and raised in a sleepy countryside almost far from civilization with no electricity, but lamps with natural coconut oil as its fuel. No public transportation to the city, about an hour's drive from our place. But we were lucky to study in Manila during our college days and worked in big cities after law school. Sure, I do love working in bustling cities and travel around the world. But my soul always longs for serenity and peace at the end of the day. I find solace in nature. Albert Eistein said, "Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." William Shakespeare also said that "If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere." These quotes inspired me to write this book on my personal experience with nature. I am truly grateful to Caleruega Retreat House in Batulao, Nasugbu, Batangas and Keukenhof, The Netherlands, where I found the quote: "Close to Nature, Closer to God" in their flower boxes. I cannot find the most fitting title for this book without those quotes written in the two beautiful flower boxes I saw in Caleruega and Keukenhof, respectively, in a span of a decade.
