For nine-year-old Trigger, third grade was all fun, games, and playing the dozens at recess until he committed his first crime of murdering his crush's brother on the playground. As an orphan in the care of Florida's foster system, all Trigger had to look forward to in life was a small group of close friends and a life of crime. Before he is even released from juvenile prison, he teams up with his bunkmate Chico with plans to participate in robberies. As the head of the Get Off Boys, Trigger, along with the help of Chico and his friends Yung C, Jose, and Ears, begins a successful tour of stealing from the rich and using Chico's cousin as an avenue to selling the drugs and the jewelry. But when things get heated, more murders are committed and all the money, sex, and cars aren't enough to keep the Get Off Boys' loyalty intact. Trigger soon has to think quickly if it means keeping himself out of jail and his crew together as his old case from third grade sneaks back up on him.
