Published by the Canon Law Society of America, the Clergy Procedural Handbook is described as "A comprehensive procedural handbook for bishops, chancery officials, personnel directors, vicars for clergy and religious, the clergy in general and all who are interested in incardination and the rights and obligations of clerics." The first part of this book is on Incardination (Incardination is "to attach a cleric to a particular diocese, after transfer from another"), and the second part is on "Processes," which includes topics as diverse as Leaves of Absence (the authors note that "various types of leaves of absence are familiar realities in the contemporary Church"), Impediments fo the Exercise of Orders, Application of Penalties, "Processes for Departure from the Clerical State," as well as "Senior Status and Retirement." The process of Laicization (along with a sample Rescript of Laicization, with a listing of the restrictions on a priest in the laicized state) is described in some detail, as well. This is hardly a "coffee table book," but it contains some very interesting information for persons interested in the Catholic priesthood.
