The Scarecrow is the first modern Chinese collection of fairy tales written specifically for children. The author, Ye Shengtao, is a pioneer in the creation of modern Chinese fairy tales. This book selects a collection of Ye Shengtao's fairy tales, including The Little White Boat and The Scarecrow, many of which have been included in primary and secondary school Chinese language textbooks. 《稻草人》是中国现代第一本为儿童而写的童话集。作者叶圣陶是中国现代童话创作的拓荒者，他的童话构思新颖独特，描写细腻逼真，富于现实内容。本书精选了叶圣陶的童话作品，如《小白船》《稻草人》等，其中多篇被选入中小学语文课本。 Ye Shengtao (1894-1988), originally named Ye Shaojun, was a native of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. He was an outstanding modern Chinese writer, educator, publisher, and "master of language arts." He successively served as Deputy Director of the General Administration of Press and Publication, President of People's Education Press, and Vice Minister of Education. Ye Shengtao was a pioneer of the May Fourth New Culture Movement and, apart from Lu Xun, the most important realistic fiction writer of the May Fourth period. He also discovered, nurtured, and recommended a number of young authors, including Ba Jin, Ding Ling, and Dai Wangshu. Ye Shengtao made significant contributions to the field of Chinese children's literature, especially in the realm of fairy tales. He wrote The Scarecrow, the first modern Chinese collection of fairy tales specifically for children, which Lu Xun praised as "opening a path for Chinese fairy tale creation." His works, including The Statue of an Ancient Hero, The Foot of the Virginia Creeper, The Scarecrow, The Bright World, and The Little Boat, have been selected for primary and secondary school Chinese language textbooks. Ye Shengtao personally compiled the famous Kaiming Chinese Language Textbook for elementary education, edited dozens of textbooks, and authored over a dozen works on Chinese language education, making tremendous contributions to the growth and education of Chinese children. 叶圣陶（1894-1988），原名叶绍钧，江苏苏州人，中国现代杰出的作家、教育家、出版家，"优秀的语言艺术家"。先后任出版总署副署长、人民教育出版社社长、副部长。 叶圣陶是"五四"新文化运动的先驱者，也是五四时期除鲁迅之外最重要的现实主义小说家。他还发现、培养和举荐过巴金、丁玲、戴望舒等一批青年作者。 叶圣陶在中国儿童文学领域，尤其是童话领域具有突出贡献。他创作了中国现代专为儿童而写的童话集《稻草人/经典文学名著》，被鲁迅称赞为"给中国童话开了一条自己创作的路"。他的作品《古代英雄的石像》《爬山虎的脚》《稻草人/经典文学名著》《光明的世界》《小小的船》等被选入中小学生语文课本。 叶圣陶亲自编写过著名的初等小学国语教材《开明国语课本》，编辑过几十种课本，写过十几本语文教育论著，对中国儿童的成长和教育付出了巨大的心血。
