Excellent Resource

If you enjoy making your own garments this book is a must have! The info is succinct and well organized in a very logical manner. Having a reference that describes how to manage difficult fabrics takes a lot of the guess work out of sewing, now I won’t be afraid to experiment outside my comfort zone.

An excellent resource for the more advanced sewer

This is an excellent resource book to have in your sewing reference library. This book will not specifically will teach you how to sew. This is for someone who has a good background in sewing, and is now venturing forth sewing more difficult and specialty fabrics. The book gives very comprehensive details as to weave, fiber characteristics, care instructions and the best sewing methods for each type of fabric. It has a very complete section on available interfacings. It also has a great section on hand sewing techniques, and their applications. This book does not explain specific sewing techniques (e.g. setting in a sleeve), but it does tell you which sleeve design (set-in vs. raglan) would be best for a particular fabric. I think it is a great book.

Better than Fabric Savvy

Much better and more complete than Sandra Betzina's books on the same topic. Chock-full of everything you want to know about any kind of fabric and tricks on how to sew them.

You need this book!

This is one of the few books which I regard as a bible in the world of sewing and fashion design. I was a clothing designer in the garment industry for 15 years and am now a professor of fashion design. I tell my students that they need to own this book if they are at all interested in continuing in the business of making clothes. This answers all those questions about how to handle, construct, and use different materials and fabrics.

Fabric Sewing Guide

This book has become the most important book to me when making clothes. Using it before starting saves from many troubles. It not only explains how different fabrics behave, what threads and needles to use, but gives an extensive view also of the types of seams and finishes to use. The included hints are really valuable, giving a lot of inside information and experience. This book really saves time, material and patience.

a must have for all sewers

Wonderful reference book for fabrics, how to sew them and their qualities. I wouldn't be without this! Covers everything from fur thru to stretch knits.
