Claire Holloway Is Winging It: A High-Flying Romance

"The dual-perspective narration steadily ratchets up the romantic tension as the leads work to trust God to lead them in the right direction, even if it's far from the path they'd planned." --Publishers Weekly
"Strong draws readers in with witty banter and quirky characters and keeps them with her depictions of real-life struggles of modern Christians. . . . this peek into the cockpit and the galley is a delightful read." --Library Journal

Romance takes to the skies, but will turbulence make it tumble?

When Claire Holloway's dream of becoming a ballerina plummets into the realm of unachievable, she's left with her boyfriend as her only support . . . until she decides to become a flight attendant for the free travel. She moves of state and into a crash pad with a gaggle of other flight attendants, and her fear of losing Wyatt skyrockets.

First Officer Nathan Stuart has been a bit cynical since he and his fianc e broke up, but when he meets a somewhat frazzled Claire on her first day in the Seattle airport, they quickly hit it off. When they end up on the same crew, he takes Claire under his wing and they form a friendly bond.

Wyatt's once-supportive attitude sours into resentment and makes Claire wonder if her newfound joy is the right flight plan. Pulled between two men and balancing her new career, she must learn to listen for God's direction and follow it closelymdashjust like her crew obeys air traffic control.

absolutely delightful romcom

"Being afraid of losing someone isn't love, because it's more about you. About what you get form them. It's selfishness." I loved this thought-provoking and deeply layered romcom by Angela Ruth Strong. It will make you double over in laughter, feel choked up from the emotional moments, feel proud when Claire and Nathan have their epiphanies, and be so glad that you befriended Claire and Nathan and all of their friends by the end of the book. I loved the fresh, funny, unfiltered first person voices of Claire and Nathan narrating their story. Claire came across as slightly unhinged but in such a lovable way. Nathan had a lot more baggage to work through, from his broken home to his broken engagement. Their banter was truly the highlight of the book. I absolutely adored the secondary characters - the housemates in Claire's crash pad were hysterical and Nathan's longtime buddies Vincent and Desiree were delightful. I don't usually enjoy love triangles but the friendship between Nathan and Claire was lovely with known boundaries and Claire was tried and true to her boyfriend Wyatt for the duration of their relationship. I loved learning about the life and work of a flight attendant and swooned at the places Claire and Nathan got to visit while working. I can't wait for the next book which will feature Claire's roommate and friend Angel. If you enjoy heart-warming romcom, you must read this book. Charming faith-based romcom

Thanks to NetGalley and Kregal Publications for a print and digital advance reader copy. All comments and opinions are my own unless otherwise noted. This was a charming, faith-based rom-com where both the guy and the gal are second guessing themselves and each other. These characters were so likable and you know they’ll end up together in the end – no spoilers, it’s just that kind of scenario. Due to an injury, Claire relinquishes her career as a ballet dancer for that of a flight attendant. This rom-com has some aspects based on reality, as the author is an authentic flight attendant and includes many of her actual experiences within the novel. The fast-moving plot kept me cheering for Claire as it juxtaposes her new career with her often unfounded fears of travel, passengers, and homeless people. In addition to the romance angle with witty banter, several characters share their sincere faith while Claire discovers a personal relationship with God. Faith conversations are balanced with the ins and outs of being a flight attendant as well as flight crew scheduling and that unique lifestyle. While this is the story of two flight crew members who travel to various cities, the Seattle location is highlighted in a way that makes it almost another character. I enjoyed the scenic site descriptions that also included San Francisco as well as Half Dome, Austin, and a few additional western cities. I have read several other contemporary, clean romances by Angela Strong and this one didn’t disappoint. If you’re looking for a sweet story where the main character develops confidence as she learns to be true to herself, you’ll enjoy this light-hearted and life-changing adventure that is the first in a new series.
