CJ and the Ducks

After the accident, Mia Juarez and her ten year old move to a small suburb north of Detroit to get away from the city. Mia waits until after the holidays before enrolling her son in fifth grade at Oakdale Elementary. Hopefully, this will provide them with the fresh start they need.

Charles is eating his slice of pizza in the cafeteria when he overhears four classmates talking about a skateboard competition. He thinks getting one (eleventh birthday coming up) will give him a way to make new friends. The group of riders call themselves the Lobos.

Charlie Hunter is not a very good hunter. His co-workers call him: Bad Luck Chuck. He decides to give fishing a try. Charlie awakes to the sound of eggs cracking. It turns out he pitched his tent next to a nest hidden in the reeds. The five hatchlings follow him around thinking Charlie is their mama. Duck hunting season doesn't start until the fall . . . so the accountant ends up taking the baby ducks home.

One day while practicing on his longboard, CJ (what the wolfpack call him) nearly gets backed into by a VW Beetle. His neighbor from down the block jumps out of the car. Rather than asking if he's okay . . . Charlie Hunter wonders if the boy could babysit his ducks.

When CJ discovers one of the Mallards perched on the nose of his longboard . . . he gets a crazy idea that just might give his team an edge in the competition.
