I was downtown one night with my friend Alex. When we got back to our cars, we were stunned to discover a crumbling cardboard box set in front of my driver's door. Inside we found writings and photos that chronicle murder and conspiracy, supernatural creatures and a nightmarish other world, sinister forces just beyond the edges of reason and sanity, and a love story that transcends space and time, all confined to our hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was a story of impossibilities. A manila envelope inside the box had two words written in thick black ink: DON'T OPEN. It held the final, disturbed thoughts of the mysterious individual who'd left the box, a man calling himself Cain from Room 203, which helped to frame the box's contents while leaving plenty of uncertainties. This compendium is a transcription of our discovery. Unfortunately, you will have questions about what you're going to read. I do too. I don't know if it's real, and I don't know how I should feel about it, but one thing I do know is that this is an extraordinary collage of menace and dread. Read it if you want. Don't expect any kind of comfort by the end. --Joshua Martin
