Victorian puzzle

An interesting glimpse into an insular Victorian world. The many children of the various branches of the Forster family occupy a world completely independent of adults - despite their many nannies and nursemaids - and conduct a thoroughly vicious "war" of their own devising. There are two sequels to this novel, but the fourth title in what was supposed to be a quartet seems never to have been written.
