In recent years, Pernambuco has established itself as the main hub of innovation in Brazilian cinema, standing out as an internationally recognised production centre at festivals and in the specialist press. However, this prominence is surprising given the state's peripheral location in one of the poorest regions of the country. The aim of this study is precisely to seek elements for understanding the phenomenon in historical analysis, identifying the agents and dynamics that contributed to the long process of structuring the film industry in Pernambuco and gave rise to a solid film tradition.
