I read this book and I found it wonderfully written, perceptive and filled with theatrical and personal anecdotes. The biographical information about Oscar Hammerstein was riveting and shocking. Apparently, Barbara Hammerstein was married to Oscar's son and the revelations and insider knowledge are fascinating to those of us who grew up when Oscar Hammerstein was at the top of his game. She was a Polish immigrant who married into so-called American theatrical royalty and you get a close up glimpse of Oscar and his wife that very few people were privy to. I also read her other book Amerkanskie Idioty and it talked about the author's lost family in Poland from the Second World War. Again, she has a wonderful style in her writing and you become enveloped in the story.
