Book Overview

Wren MacAvoy works as a coal miner for a domed city that was constructed in the mid-nineteenth century to protect the royal blood line of England when astronomers spotted a comet on a collision course with Earth. Humanity would be saved by the most groundbreaking technology of the time. But after nearly 200 years of life beneath the dome, society has become complacent and the coal is running out. Plus there are those who wonder, is there life outside the dome or is the world still consumed by fire? When one of Wren's friends escapes the confines of the dome, he is burned alive and put on display as a warning to those seeking to disrupt the dome's way of life. But Alex's final words are haunting. "The sky is blue." What happens next is a whirlwind of adventure, romance, conspiracy and the struggle to stay alive in a world where nothing is as it seems. Wren unwittingly becomes a catalyst for a revolution that destroys the dome and the only way to survive might be to embrace what the entire society has feared their entire existence. Ashes of Twilight is the first book in a trilogy by Kassy Tayler.

My new favorite version of Cinderlla

I picked this up not knowing what to expect and ended up devouring it in basically one sitting. Marissa Meyer somehow made a Cinderella retelling set in a futuristic city with a cyborg main character work perfectly — it sounds wild, but it just clicks. Cinder is such a great protagonist, and the world is so creative. Ended up immediately ordering the rest of the series. 10/10 would recommend to anyone who loves fairy tale retellings or just a really fun, fast-paced read.

A very underrated series more should read.

A futuristic twist on a classic fairy tale. You can see the 'Cinderella' story line all through the book but at the same time it feels like a new story with all the science fiction elements. A great start to a great series.

Bad packaging and missing the collectors box

The book came in a plastic bag for shipping with no padding. It has minor scuffs on the cover and corners of the cover are squished. It is completely missing the box it should slide into that I paid for.

This book has probably been one of the best books I've read in a while.

I could not put this book down. I finished it in like 4 days. The story was written well. You fall in love with the characters. It's a completely different new take on Cinderella. You will not be disappointed.

Good read

Great characters very different and eccentric plot

Cinderella with a twist

This was my first time reading anything by this author but I was not disappointed. This was a fun read and have recommended it to many friends and family.

Cinder is Everything I Hoped It Would Be

See, Cinder was everything I wanted in a sci-fi fantasy in that I could see everything, even the things I was unfamiliar with at first, I could hear the characters, see their differences and their reactions, and all I want is more. I am waiting for the next book very impatiently, and highly recommend this book to anyone who needs something to spark their interest in reading again. I haven't read a book cover to cover in six years, but when I picked this one up I couldn't stop and now the series must be mine. Happy reading, get this book.

Unique version of Cinderella

I first read this book in high school, and it's great. A truly unique take on the classic 'Cinderella.'

Best fairytale retelling ever…

Beautifully written book. Old tale with new twists. Get this book!

My absolute favourite series to date

If you enjoy the "twisted tales" genre of books, The Lunar Chronicles is the series to read! These books follow the stories of Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Snow White, and all of their stories intertwine to come together to a satisfying ending. So many amazing, memorable characters, an intriguing plot, and just... I love it so much. I've read the series over a few times, and now that I don't have access to my high school library, I want to own it. I highly recommend reading The Lunar Chronicles. Marissa Meyer did such a great job with it.

Wow!

Literally could not put it down! Such a great spin on a Cinderella! Buying the next books in the next now! If you’re someone that needs to be grabbed by the book almost immediately then this is a great book for you!

Interesting take on Cinderella

Love what Melissa Meyer has done with the story of Cinderella. She has written a great twist on the character. It is a great read.

It's so interesting

It took my a couple chapters to really get into this book, but once things picked up I couldn't put it down. This whole series is amazing. It's so unique and yet familiar. I just finished the third in the series and can't wait to start on the 4th one!

Best book ever!

This is by far the coolest take on Cinderella, and very well written! It’s inspiring for so many reasons! I definitely recommend it!

Unique take on a classic story!

Loved this book. Loved how diverse and unique the story line was. The characters, places, even the events were so creative and fun. Great beginning to the series

fantastic retelling of Cinderella

Such an interesting take on Cinderella! I love the cyborg take on it and it definitley has a Star Wars feel to it! I would for sure recommend this series to anyone!

Interesting

Interesting twist on Cinderella. Totally recommend it.

The original story, with a twist

This story takes the original story of Cinderella and sets it years in the future. It makes Cinderella a a spunky cyborg teen with a bad home life. It works. Fans of the original story or any of the retellings should pick this up and take a look at how this story winds and turns throught the life of a girl in a world that doesn't seem to want her.

Cyborg Cinderella

I LOVED this book. I LOVED this series! I won't say any more cause I know I'll spoil it somewhere along the way. I like i said, Cyborg Cinderella. Go in blind. You will not be disappointed

A Thrilling Retelling

In short, the story was well constructed, the world engaging and interestingly held together & the relationships convincing. Wonderful and I look forward to the sequel.

Love this series!

Only problem i had with it was the font.

Happy almost Halloween! It's also the anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen's classic Sense and Sensibility, so we thought we should find a way to celebrate both—a bit of a mash-up, if you will. In fact, mash-up is kind of the perfect word to describe the books we are highlighting this week.
