Cundī, also known as Cundī Buddhamātṛ, is revered as a deity for fertility, safe childbirth, and family harmony, as she is considered the mother who gives birth to countless Buddhas.
Cundī is deeply connected to the founding of Mount Koya by Kōbō Daishi Kūkai. Kūkai established the Junteidō Hall on Mount Koya and enshrined Cundī as the main deity during his disciples' ordination ceremonies (得度, Tokudo). Even today, the mantra of this deity is chanted during ordinations on Mount Koya, underscoring Cundī's special status there.
