Desensitized. That's what all sports fans have become to the plethora of criminal-athletes that pervade our sports culture. So what will the bombastic owner of the New England Mavericks do when he... This description may be from another edition of this product.
The concept alone, that Charles Manson could even throw a baseball, let alone get out of jail and throw no-hitters, is funny in and of itself. The execution is exactly as I would wish. I'm not a big sports fan, but I certainly enjoy pop culture and history - and this book brings these two together, in a way that had me laughing out loud a number of times. The author starts each chapter with a little blurb about something that has happened in the past related to a sports figure getting into trouble. While it doesn't have anything to do with the chapter itself, it is great to have that little recap of the past to let you start wondering that these sports guys get away with murder, sometimes literally, and maybe the premise of the book isn't all that far fetched after all... This is my first review for a book. I heard the author interviewed on a local radio station, and I ordered the book hoping for the best. I was not disappointed. I have already passed my copy of the book onto a friend I thought would enjoy it, and he is halfway through and seems to be enjoying it as much as I did. I recommend this book to anyone that has a love of history, sports, satire, comedy, or just words in book form in general. I'm sure you will enjoy it as much as I did.
