A boy survives the destruction of everything he has ever known.
Taken in by one of the royal families, Boone finds safety behind castle walls, but safety cannot replace the loving mother he lost, the father who would have taught him how to become a man, or the village he was someday expected to lead.
In this coming-of-age fantasy adventure, a frightened boy must learn where he belongs. As the years pass, Boone trains with sword and bow, learns to survive, and slowly finds something he never expected to have again: a family.
But beyond the castle walls, old hatreds are stirring and armies are beginning to move. What first appears to be a local conflict threatens the peace Boone has finally learned to call home.
Behind it all, Boone catches glimpses of something far more dangerous: a mysterious wizard marked by a red ruby earring. Magic follows in his wake, but Boone has no way of knowing what the wizard wants or how far his influence reaches.
Soon, the skills Boone learned in the safety of a training yard are tested by real war. His journey carries him beyond everything familiar and eventually places him face-to-face with one of the most powerful beings in the world:
A Storm Dragon.
Boone has already learned what it costs to lose everything.
Now, with the people he loves and a kingdom threatened, he must discover that having the strength to fight is only part of becoming the man he wants to be.
Sometimes choosing the hard right over the easy wrong can feel next to impossible.
