A bit sketchy, but very interesting

The author really gives a lot of historical background to the images and traditions that we associate with Christmas. The book is written in the form of a dictionary, with thoughtful explanations under each word, e.g., "Advent Wreath," "Holly," and "Yulelog." It was very interesting to learn of specific "pagan" traditions and items which were eventually incorporated into the Christian Church's celebration of the Nativity. There is some repetition due to the dicitonary format, but the information is still fascinating.
