Encouragement is absolutely essential for a thriving Church. If a Church is going to flourish and not just exist, every member of the Church needs to be an encourager. We all need encouragement, from the strongest Christian to the one just born again. It is so very easy to become discouraged and fall into the pit of discouragement. Where does discouragement lead? It leads to sin, which slowly hardens the heart by its deceitfulness. From Hebrews 3:13 quoted above. Encouragement works with every gift of the Holy Spirit-those who have the gift of pastor, preacher, teacher, leader, evangelist, faith, fellowship, giving, mercy, and serving. Encouragement weaves itself in and through all these gifts, especially the greatest of them all, Love. See I Corinthians 13.
