It is really hard to wrap your mind around the differences between Christ's message and the church's message, so I made a spreadsheet. I made a row for every verse in the Red Letters, and assigned each verse a subject heading. Then, I converted the spreadsheet to a pie chart. I did this because I wanted to see what Jesus talked about most. I think a case can be made that the issues he hit hardest were the things He thought were most important. The Red Letters comprise about 1890 verses. A whole lot of this is taken up with miracles, prophecies, and "I am" statements-- which are important, but they are not direct instruction. 1385 verses of the Red Letters are Christ's direct moral instructions to His followers. The instructions that Christ hit the hardest are: "be humble," "don't be a hypocrite," "don't be materialistic," "obey the spirit of the Law above the letter," and "many are called, but few are chosen." The sins of drunkenness and adultery comprise a little over two-tenths of one percent of Christ's message. Humility takes up close to twenty percent.
