Book Overview

The Darkest Hour Approaches

Eliezer Wren is a simple man who wants to be a simple priest. But stealing the Prince of Shadows' plunder and ambushing one of his most trusted servants is not the best way to go about ensuring a simple life-or a long and healthy one. Now Wren is on the run from the Prince's hunters, both living and dead, and caught in a web of betrayal from his past.

Yushuv is a boy who wants nothing more than to grow into being a man in his own time, and to scour the ancient catacombs near his village for forgotten treasure to sell. But when an ancient evil sets his home to the sword, Yushuv is forced to discover the catacombs' darkest secret-and to take the first steps on the road to his ultimate destiny.

For in this time of strife, even the heavens hide their secrets, and a divination gone wrong sets in motion a series of events that threaten to rock the very foundations of the Realm. The fates of priests, spirits, soldiers and the Solar Exalted themselves are bound up together, and only the actions of the unlikeliest of heroes can determine what the future holds-or if there will be any future at all.

The Trilogy of the Second Age is the first fiction set in the Age of Sorrows, exploring the world of the Exalted. The series continues with Beloved of the Dead and reaches its monumental conclusion with Children of the Dragon.

Comsumptuos Fantasy

Books like this dont only intrest you, the engulf you with their style, world, and character developement; consuming you and not letting go until the tragic last page of a marvelous book. When ending this book, I remember wishing there had been at least one more chapter, or that part 2(beloved of the dead) had already been released. I have now almost finished beloved of the dead and am loving it as well.Richard Dansky is a marvelous writer, with seemingly flawless diction, wich is yet still simple and flows with ease. In addition to that, gives a wonderful amount of discription, with another for concept, but still allowing our imagination to fly. Most importantly, amazing character developement; not only of the protagonist, but the antogonist as well(which seem mixed in reality's shades of grey). Each with reasonable, understandable, and humane emotions, qualities, and faults. A great read indeed for the casual reader looking for something enjoyable...

Consumptous Fantasy

This book is marvelous, simply marvelous. It is relatively simple in text, but the world, characters, and style are all engrossing to an extent that your sucked in, or consumed if you will, and don't want to let go. Possibly my faviorate thing about his style is his word choice, so simple, and yet seemingly flawless. In addition, each character, including the antagonists, are given understandable and humane qualities/faults. I don't remember the last book I read so quickly. I'm already almost through the second book and await finding the third. These books are not rare, nor common, and seem to be in few numbers. I have seen them from barnes and nobles to kmart, but never more than one at a time, so if your intrested, you might want to buy it now than risk not finding it.

whoa

this was one of the best books i have ever read. i picked this up at the bookstore hoping that i would be able to finish it, and to my surprise, i liked it so much i got the second and im now waiting for the third. the plot was great and the characters are awesome. i so recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy novels.

Amazing Novel

I picked up Chosen of the Sun to get a little better feel for the world of Exalted. What I found was one of the best works of fiction I've read in several years. Almost every page was full of wit and on-liners. I was amazed at how well the story flowed, especially for a game novel. It gave you a genuine intrest in the characters and what was going to happen next. I found every character captivating, such as Ratcatcher. Who despite his obvious flaws I couldn't help but like. I recomend this book to anyone who is looking for a bit of light reading. I promise you won't want to put it down.

A noble effort...

A noble effort. Since the utter collapse of the Dragonlance line of novels, I've avoided RPG Novels with an overwhelming passion. However, I found the Exalted setting interesting enough, and perhaps more importantly, interpretable enough to want another perspective. I was not disappointed. Chosen suffers from very few of the traditional 'Game Novel' stigmas, no simplified dumdeddownededness here, just solid, unflowery prose. With that in mind, I give Chosen four stars in the category of 'Game Novels', with the Chronicles of Dragonlance, and just about everything Greenwood has written, topping out at five. Don't let the Clan Novels scare you away from this one.
