I began to imagine writing a book that could serve in helping to redeem the time I had spent in prison by sharing my hard-won lessons with others. I have no written this book because I have mastered all of these lessons. Quite the opposite, I have written this book because these are the lessons I need to relearn and apply every single day of my life.
Prison was not a wonderful place where I learned to be a terrific person! Prison, and the circumstances that led me to prison, deeply scarred my spirit and soul. It is only because Jesus carried me through each and every day, whether I acknowledged it at the time or not, that I survived, and--I dare say--thrived.
