Fatherly Wisdom

No matter how old we are, we can all use a little "fatherly wisdom" and that is exactly what Tom provides in his book, Chocolate Cows and Purple Cheese and Other Tales from the Homefront." Tom is a remarkable storyteller and every bit of that comes through in this book. He draws upon his own personal tales and those of his family and offers us some wisdom from a dad who has been there. The book is both humorous and touching; insightful and candid. It is an engaging read from beginning to end and, because it is a series of short "stories," can be easily read by even the busiest of individuals. In today's society, parenting is increasingly difficult and the more we go through as individual parents, the more we seem to realize what we have in common with other parents who are going through or have gone through the same things. That is where the stories and anecdotes Tom shares will resonate with all parents. Fathers (and mothers) take notice and check out this book from a dad who's taken the time to be involved and to share with us what he has learned.

Wit, Wisdom and a Sense of Wonder

Written by a modern Dad with old-fashioned values, Chocolate Cows and Purple Cheese made me laugh, cry and remember that life is mostly made up of moments...moments that for most of us just fly as we move impatiently from one task to another. This book made me STOP and take a little time to reflect on the joy, the wonder, the challenges in a life as a busy Mom, wife, professional. I shared Tom's fears for his daughters, growing up in a society which encourages girls to grow up too fast. I laughed at his story of Olivia's obsession with time as a three year old which reminded me of a time when my daughter believed that anything in the past was "yesterday" and anything in the future was "tomorrow". A loving Dad and husband, Tom writes with wit, wisdom and sense of wonder in a style that is light enough to be an easy read, but serious enough to be worth reading. A great book to read in short bursts - before bed, on the plane, on the beach, anywhere your busy life takes you!

Heartwarming, Funny and Entertaining

I have truly enjoyed reading "Chocolate Cows And Purple Cheese: And Other Tales From The Homefront". I would read the book in the morning during breakfast. The true stories of Tom's life brought smiles to my face, tears to my eyes and gave me many deep thoughts from his words of wisdom. Every chapter leaves you wanting to read one more chapter. I definitely recommend this book. It is very heartwarming, funny and entertaining.

A Slice of Life Read

What an enjoyable read! Here's an opportunity to discover how a man view of the world is shaped by those closest to him. We read of his tales as a husband, father, son and friend. A wide range of emotions come out in this collection of short stories that take us into the life that is the author. I think if you read carefully enough, you will find a little bit of these same stories in your life - the kind of stuff that will bring about a smile and maybe a few tears as you turn from page to page. So get a copy and enjoy the read. At least you've got to discover the meaning behind "Chocolate Cows and Purple Cheese"

Great summer read

Chocolate Cows and Purple Cheese was a great read. The author had great insight into issues that we encounter every day of our lives (some funny, some serious) and because the book has many short articles it is a great one to keep around when you just have a little free time.
