This is book number 9 in the Tor Double Action Western series, and the second set of doubles by Max Brand. These are two typical representations of his work as published during the late 1920's and early 1930's before he went to work in Hollywood to write the Dr. Kildare stories. As I have found with most of Brand's work, I either love them or hate them; only a few fall in the middle, as do these two. Again Max Brand's western world came exclusively out of his mind and many of his novels are simply re-tellings of Greek Mythology. His real desire was to write classical poetry, but westerns paid the bills for his luxuriant lifestyle--he lived in an Italian villa until just before WWII broke out. In Chip Champions a Lady the hero heads south to Mexico to rescue a beautiful girl from an outlaw, and his friend tags along losing his heart, his pride, and maybe his life. In Forgotten Treasure you have a clan feud story with Romeo and Juliet. These are two readable stories by Brand.
