This best-selling volume is a wonderful introduction to written characters in traditional and simplifi ed forms. Includes writing exercises and pronunciation codes in Hanyu Pinyin and Zhuyin Fuhao for... This description may be from another edition of this product.
My sons, 11 and 13, are currently learning Mandarin from a young lady from Taiwan. This book is perfect for the supplementation we do at home because it allows me to teach them more about the etiology of Chinese characters and how to write them. I don't know if a non-native speaker will be able to use the book in quite the same manner, but I have had my first 3 grades of schooling in Hong Kong, and am able to read and write a bit in Chinese, which helps me tremendously when I teach the boys. I've not used the CD yet, but the book itself, as I think another review has mentioned, is well worth the price on its own.
Highly recommend!

This is by far my favorite Chinese learning product to date - it's a great, very organic way to learn Chinese characters. I haven't tried the CD ROM yet but I consider that a plus - the book on its own is fabulous.
Great book for a beginner.

I found this book very helpful during my recent trip to Taiwan. I basically started learning the traditional characters with this book and found it well done. I wish there were even more games on the CDROM, but I guess I'll have to get the next book. Good luck learning Mandarin!
