Children of the Red Earth: African Poetry

Children of the Red Earth is a collection of Africam Poems. They tell the stories of African lifestyle, heritage, and modern African Experience. Each poem tells a story about some part of our history and of the significant forces that shape the expression of our Africanness whether it is the trans-Atlantic Slave Trade or the forced conversion to Christianity or the mental slavery that has continued to bedevil the continent.

These poems offer a guiding light and an escape from how things have been. It is written for anyone who cares about the African continent irrespective of origins. Africans living in the diaspora and other persons of African descent can learn so much when they unlock the meanings behind these pieces of poetry. Poetry has been a part of African cultural expression and this manifests in the spoken and the written forms of African communication.

The publication of these poems is part of a drive to foster non-traditional skill development efforts for youth in Africa and the proceeds made from the sales will go into supporting these initiatives. The Children of the Red Earth is part of the SEVICS Books for Development Series.
