A HARD READ IN MANY WAYS - EXCELLENT OLDIE

This one was first published in 1978. My title states this is a hard read in many ways, and it is. The story is quite involved and to be frank, quite brutal. Basically, it is the story of a very evil empire ruled by a very, very evil, cruel and somewhat insane leader. The story is of one man, Jehan, who overthows this empire. This is done through a peasant revolt. The author is quite graphic in his discription of death, battle, etc. At the time this was written in fact, he probably was pushing the line just a bit. While the author does get a bit bogged down in details at times, and the story does slow a bit here and there, it is still a great read for those who enjoy this particular genre. Recommend.
