Sunday Obote was only seven when he was kidnapped by the Lord's Resistance Army, a rebel group in northern Uganda. His life abruptly changed from peaceful village life, where he fished and hunted with his friends, to the savagery of the LRA. Sunday was turned into a child soldier trained to kill on demand, even killing other children.
A seven-year-old child is kidnaped and trained to kill, serving as a soldier

A person must be eighteen years of age to join the United States Military. Not all countries have such enlightened policies. "Child, Victim, Soldier: The Loss of Innocence in Uganda" is the story of children such as Sunday Obote. Donald Dunson has done much research to bring American eyes onto the dark truth that they so often ignore, a civil war that engulfs Uganda that makes America's own look like a sunny picnic in a grassy meadow. A seven-year-old child is kidnaped and trained to kill, serving as a soldier. This horrible story happens far more often than one would imagine, and "Child, Victim, Soldier" speaks for the voices that America ignores.
Have we learned nothing from our history?

Our church made a mission visit to Gulu, Uganda, this past June of 2008; the same area visited and written about by Fr. Dunson in this book. We plan to work with the people of Koch Goma, near the city of Gulu. What will you do? Here is my challenge - if you can read this book and still not be moved to act then you are already out of touch with your own humanity. It is a short but powerful description of horror, calling us to hope and action in a world drowning in apathy.
