Country Living welcomes back Steven Coffman's celebrated collection of essays about life on the farm. Hailed by Library Journal as "amusing, exuberant, and poignant," it now includes three entirely... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I just finished reading this book 5 minutes ago and had to get on the internet to see what else Steve Coffman has written! Unfortunately, he hasn't done any more books on country living that I can find. I'm disappointed because I didn't want this book to come to an end. I haven't enjoyed a book this much in years- and I read quite a bit. Chicken Justice seems to be a collection of essays that Steve has written over the years and they tend to go in chronological order- though not always. The experiences he writes about vary- from finding and choosing their farm, and killing his first (and last!) chicken, to cluster fly invasions and psycho cardinals and cowbirds. Coffman has a wonderful way of telling a story and I laughed out loud during the chapter describing the death and funeral of Ugly Bill, their cat.-You have to read it and find out why that would be funny! I cried hearing about the end of their loyal dog Star, and sympathized with his mixed feelings about the butchering of their hog. This book was thoughtful, humorous and irreverent, all in one. If you enjoy living in or reading about life in the country, I think you'll find this book a great read!
