Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth, II Timothy 2:15I knew Teryila Solomon Addi as a young convert in Gboko more than two decades ago. He was quite zealous for the things of God and has maintained that fervency to date. Little did I know though that he was going to commit his life to the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ to the magnitude we are seeing today We give all glory to God.We have many in the Church today, though educated in the things of God but show or take no interest in reading. This is nonchalance. Reverend Addi has challenged the church to sit up, to store scriptures by heart and to keep scriptures at the finger tips. He attempted to break the scriptures into smaller "chewable" bits.Thy word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against thee. In difficult times or moments of sorrow it is the word of God one remembers in one's heart that helps one. Our brother, in this book has taught one to study and to exercise ourselves in the knowledge of the scriptures. He has asked questions that will lead one to search the scriptures, simply put in his word "Chew the Word".I wish to recommend this write up to the house - hold of faith.GbileAkanniPeace House, Gboko'Chew the Word' is a help that will enable the reader get deep into the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. It is aimed at thoroughly passing through the Old Testament in different ways as evidenced in the Nine Chapters. The reader is expected to try supplying the answer before looking it up at the end of the Book. It is recommended for Bible students of all levels - the young, the old, generally Christians alike, who desire to go deep into the Word.During my early childhood, my father, at one time taught the children in the Sunday School. After teaching the day's lessons, he would ask questions and reward children who got the right answers as a form of stimulation and encouragement. Little did I know then that as I, among other kids struggled to answer Daddy's questions, traces of burden for this work began to impress on my heart. On growing up, I was called to ministry first in the Para-Church and now the Church. While working with students of secondary school level and later the University in Nigeria and along the West African Coast, I discovered a gross inadequacy in knowledge of the Scriptures. Now in the Church I see the same thing among congregations of children, youth and even adults. Living and interacting with people of other faiths, I observed that they handle more seriously the words of their scriptures and also zealously hand it down to subsequent generations for continuity. In Christianity however, this may not be the case (my opinion). These cumulative burdens over time brought me to the stage which by God's grace, I trusted Him to enable me prepare such a material which will not only be handy, easy to understand, but attractive and draw the reader into the presence of God through its realities.I have also discovered through the years that some preachers ask rhetoric questions as they preach and most of the time no answers are supposed to be expected or given. Studying the Fill in the Gap section will help the reader to find ready answers for some occasions. The True or False section and the Direct Questions mostly would help people struggling to get some Biblical truths as found in the references here. The Context Questions are meant to stimulate the reader into deeper meditation on the Word and to some extent analyze or synthesize the concerned scripture. Characteristics of people and places have been carefully chosen so as to give the reader first hand tips about the character concerned. This I believe will help readers even in daily personal or group devotion as regard character studies. I also believe that one can consciously recite scriptures in bits. I have deliberately included this portion
